Nightshift has won a 2023 IALD International Lighting Design Award, IALD Special Citation, making us the only Canadian firm to achieve this honour! We’re grateful for the recognition and want to extend a big thank you to all those involved on the project team.The IALD International Lighting Design Awards, the longest running international lighting design awards program, is the highest honor in the profession recognizing work that reaches new heights and represents excellence in aesthetic and technical achievement. Nightshift is an illuminated art installation located in downtown Toronto beside a Junior Public School. This project was developed in partnership with the City of Toronto and the Toronto District School Board. Spanning 39 meters of the public sidewalk and made up of 144 channel glass panels, this luminous installation was created with integrated motion-activated sensors that when triggered create a wave of coloured light that tracks both the direction and speed of the pedestrian. The dynamic display of digital art illuminates the once dark sidewalk, to help strengthen the community values and create an elevated sense of awareness.
